Student Art Gallery

"Every child is an artist.
The problem is how to remain an artist once he grows up."
                                                - Pablo Picasso

The student artwork here represents work done by kindergarten through fifth grade students at William Jesse Gurganus Elementary School in Havelock, North Carolina.  Throughout the year in each grade level we incorporate learning the elements of art with a variety of media including, but not limited to, oil pastels, chalk pastels, watercolor, acrylic, tempera, clay, printmaking and collage.  Students learn about the history of art as well as art in other cultures by creating portraits, still lifes, landscapes, and abstract work of their own.  My favorite projects are the interdisciplinary art work that we do as students make connections between art to literature and other grade level curriculum.
